Before: The Throne
It’s a quarter to 9 AM, the joe’s bubbling and the cakes are sizzling in a greased pan. Yeah, today, I’m in one of those “if you can do it, fix it your damn self” moods. After the nightmare I had last night, everything seems so simple---you know, like my perspective’s been reshaped, remodeled and remastered in the past eight hours.
I didn’t see any cute dancing dames environed by candlelight---oh, no, no, no, no I didn’t---not this time. This nightmare was … one of those “bed-destroyers”. Yeah, that type … Here’s how it went: I was seated before a chair crafted from the finest old world ores---the purest gold and silver---and I couldn’t move. I was stuck there, but then … someone grabbed me, picked me up like yesterday’s trash, turned me around and showed me a mass of people. Men, women, and children, young and old, all there right in front of me. But then … suddenly …
Everyone and everything was struck by lightning, which caused them to inexplicably disappear right before my very eyes! I was then given the freedom to move, which I used to look up and observe where the lightning struck from---only to be struck by lightning myself, and feel the real-world sensation overwhelm my body! I immediately woke up in a sweat, caught my breath and eventually calmed down. Ironically, my alarm clock activated shortly thereafter, which meant that I got a full night’s rest. Unfortunately, my heavy-beating heart made this fact feel imaginary.
After recovering, I phoned Roman and reported A.G.’s latest business arrangement, which he was all up for, especially after the crock’s previous financial contribution. Thinking back, I remember Morrigan referring to missing person cases as the “wild card drawers” of criminal investigation---you never know what to expect, and the deal is always a tricky one, especially amid a group operation. In all honesty, speaking from personal experience, I have to agree with her, especially when considering cases involving the usage of ancient artifacts.
The disappearances of Bödvar Bjarki and several others from Garner City have the media buzzing. Fortunately, the buzz hasn’t leaked any information on Mjölnir; thus, its whereabouts are undoubtedly in the hands of our culprit. Who that person is … Well, that’s something nobody knows at this point. From what I’ve learned, we have four other people to find before this case can be closed: Elizabeth Domalde, Claudio von Ingjald, Egil Gautland, and Donovan Ohthere. A bunch of big cheeses from Garner, eh? … Humph. No telling what the results of this one will be.
